Letter From the Mayor

Let me take you through our community, we are located on the banks of the Tuscarawas River in the southwest corner of Tuscarawas County. We have an easy access to our community by way of Interstate 77 and U.S. Route 36. We are a small industrial community that has a spacious industrial park that was incorporated by our own Community Improvement Corporation of Newcomerstown (CIC). When you enter our village, you will be visiting the hometown of Cy Young and Woody Hayes. History is one of the interesting things we provide.

Our Temperance Tavern Museum and Main Street Museum gives you the history going back to when our community was established in 1814 by the Neighbor family. Our museum has displays that go from the civil war days to modern day. This is one stop you do not want to miss.

Just around the corner is our public library which has the old library and a modern facility. The library provides a service for the young and old. It provides numerous programs for those that are interested in learning. The library provides computers for the public use and the staff provides assistance in anyway needed.

Our community has an excellent school system that provides an education for our children so they will succeed in life. The school buildings in the district have recently been upgraded to help provide for a better education for our children. We have excellent athletic facilities that are maintained by the school system.

Our community provides a variety of denominations for those wishing to worship. Our Ministerial Association provides a great service for those who need or wish to talk. Our churches provide activities for the young and old.

Our Cy Young Park and Cy Young Memorial provide recreation for one and all. There is a modern swimming pool that is managed by the village. We provide a service for those that enjoy sports. You can bring your children or grandchildren to play and enjoy our facility. We have covered picnic shelters for your family reunion, parties, picnics and special events. We have the largest Little League organization in Tuscarawas County.

We have our own weekly newspaper, The Newcomerstown News, that has kept us up on what is happening in our community and surrounding area since 1898. Our paper is read near and far, those that move away still keep in touch by reading our paper.

Our community organizations are very active and put back into the community. The organizations have many members that volunteer their time and talents. They are always ready to help anyone in need when possible.

During your visit, there are several places to stop and grab lunch. Whether you like fast food or home style, we have a place for you to eat while you are here, whether you are just passing through or spending the day.

I hope I have sparked your interest in our community. Whether you are just visiting, relocating or wanting to start a business, our village and our CIC will work with you to see that your move will be met with great expectations and you are satisfied.

Thank you for taking this stroll through our community. I hope it was enjoyable and if there is anything that we can do for you, let us know and we will see you during your next trip to our community.

Sincerely,
James A. Friel, Mayor
