Jim has lived in Tuscarawas County all his life. He graduated in 1968 from Indian Valley South (Gnadenhutten).
His first adventure in Newcomerstown was in 1971, when he met his wife, Patricia. They were married on March 10th, 1973 at the Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown. Together, they raised two children, Angela and Robert. Between the two of them, they have six grandchildren.
Jim has been involved with the Village of Newcomerstown since January, 1981. He started his career in Law Enforcement in 1976 with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Department as a reserve deputy. In 1981, he was hired with the Newcomerstown Police Department and worked for the Village for four years as a patrolman and ten years as Chief of Police.
In 1996, he moved on to a career in Security. He was hired at The Longaberger Basket Company in Dresden, Ohio and served there for fourteen years. He is presently working for O.S.S. (Ohio Security Service) at Gradall Industry in New Philadelphia.
His involvement with the Village of Newcomerstown did not end. In 1998 he was elected to Village Council. From there, he served two terms on the board of Trustees for BPA. He was elected Mayor of the Village for one term and is presently on Council for another term. In all, Jim has 34 years of service involved with the Village.
He is affiliated with Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce, Newcomerstown Elk’s Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge Lone Star 175. He is also a past member of the Newcomerstown’s Lion Club.
He and his wife have celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Jim also serves as Chair for Public Safety & Public Relations.
